Small SEO Fixes for Big Wins

When it comes to SEO, most marketers focus on the huge, time consuming changes which can make a positive difference in search engine rankings.

However, it’s not always the biggest jobs that create the most impact, especially in SEO and digital marketing. For example, when a new algorithm is announced, a simple alteration could make all the difference – but if you haven’t stayed on top of industry changes then your ranking could drop pretty quickly.

Small SEO fixes are just as important to consider. You might think those empty web pages aren’t doing any harm – but it takes just a few minutes to delete them! Fixing crawl issues and improving the site speed takes minimal effort but can really improve your website’s performance.

Take a look at these minor SEO corrections and small updates which can make a huge impact to your SERPs.

  1. Remove duplicate contentcontent duplication

In the eyes of the internet, duplicate chunks of content or duplicate pages are a huge turn-off. Nobody wants to read the same thing twice! Delete pages which are too similar or re-word sections of your site which were copied from other pages.

  1. Alt tags

When uploading an image it’s easy to forget alt tags – which is why you should go back through and check all images on the site. Search engines crawl through alt tags so take the time to include keywords and other relevant words relating to the picture.

  1. Remove paginated content from the index

Many websites have paginated content; it’s often unavoidable if you have a blog or sell a lot of products. In terms of SEO, pagination can be a problem unless it is handled well. A good website design plays an important role, but you’ll most likely have to deal with paginated content at some point. The easiest way is by implementing a ‘no index.’

This means that google won’t index the majority of this content – so if this is a problem then you’ll need to find a different solution.

  1. Improve site speedsite speed

Maximising the speed of your site can give you an extra boost, and there are plenty of little tricks to help get your pages loading faster. Delete redundant plugins, reduce the file size of images and reduce redirects as these all contribute to load time.

You can also use Google’s PageSpeed Insights to identify ways to increase site speed and make it more mobile-friendly. There are plenty of simple general fixes out there which offer big wins – so there’s no excuse! Start with these minor tweaks and remember that SEO is an ongoing process but hopefully you’ve started as you mean to go on.
